Yapahuwa (also known as Yapawwa, pawwa means mountain)  Fortress is located in the Mahawa divisional secretariat in the Kurunegala district of the North western province of Sri Lanka. It is said that in the early 13th century, a fortress is built by the commander Subha.After that king Vijayabahu iv had done some development work Yapahuwa.Yapahuwa was an important security point at that time.Buwnekabahu. (1772-1784)brother of king Vijayabahu iv has made Yapahuwa his capital city.Yapahuwa is the 4th kindom of Sri Lanka.The kindom was build around a 100m high rock.Yapahuwa has been the capital of Sri Lanka for about 10 years.
