Haththi kuchchi temple complex

Haththi kuchchi temple complex situated in North-Western province Sri Lanka 3.5 away from Mahagalkadawala junction.Haththi kuchchi means stomach of elephant. The name has derived from the fact that it has a stone shaped an elephant.This was a large monastery complex.It is said that king Sirisangabo (251-253 A.D) gave his own head to a man . Gotabaya, brother of Sirisangabo, became king of  Anuradhapura after the escape of  king Sirisangabo.but Gotabhaya was afraid of Sirisangabo's come back and fight again.  So he used a trick to kill Sirisangabo.The man was brought the head of Sirisangabo as a result of that tactic.The earlier view was that king Sirisangabo gave his head in Attanagalla in Gampaha.But today Hththikuchchi is considered as the place where the head is given.There is amazing creations made of stone.
