            Thonigala rock inscription situated in Tonigala in Anamaduwa town,puttalama district,North Western province ,Sri Lanka.There are two inscriptions in the rock and each inscription is hundred feet long and each letter is one feet high.

Inscription 1

Period      : 1st century A,D
Script       : Early Brahmi
Language : Old Sinhala

               The tank of the Thissa, son of the chief Abhaya was donated to the sangha (sangha mean buddhist monk)of the four quarters presents and absent, in the monastery of Acchagirika Thissa pabbatha (mountain). The great king Gamini Abhaya dedicated Acchanagaraka and Tavikiriya nagaraka to the  monastery.These donation, the chief Abhaya caused to be dedicated by the king to the Sangha of the four quarters, present and absent.

This tank has been donated by lord Tissa,The son of the lord Abhaya, and two places named Achanagaraka and Tawirikiya have been donated by king Gamini Abhaya to the monk of Achagirika Tissa Pabbatha temple.
